Dr Charlie Day (D.Phil (Oxon), B.E. (Hons), B.A., GAICD) has been elected as a Non-Executive Director of the Board of leading digital health accelerator, ANDHealth.

ANDHealth is Australia’s only organisation dedicated to supporting digital health companies to commercialise – turning innovative health and technology ideas into viable, high-growth businesses. Under a unique non-profit, industry-led model, ANDHealth provides expert advice, ongoing support, and tailored programs proven to accelerate the scale-up of evidence-based digital health businesses.

ANDHealth has worked with over 380 Australian digital health companies, engaging through a suite of proprietary programs which are proven to drive commercialisation outcomes. Since 2017, ANDHealth has provided 1474 hours of direct assistance, support and training to digital health companies across Australia.

Gavin Fox-Smith, ANDHealth Chair, welcomed Charlie to the Board, noting “Charlie brings tremendous knowledge and skills across the Innovation spectrum as well as a deep understanding of key stakeholders, particularly in Government,” Mr Fox-Smith said.

Charlie is an investor, adviser, and entrepreneur in the areas of innovation, science, research and commercialisation. He has over 20 years’ experience working in commercial, academic, and policy settings, and has been invited to speak at conferences in this field in the US, Europe and Asia.

Until early 2020, Charlie was the inaugural permanent CEO of the Office of Innovation and Science Australia (now the Office of Industry, Innovation and Science Australia), a role which supported the ISA Board in delivering its mandate to provide strategic advice, program oversight and public advocacy for Australia’s Science and Innovation system.

Charlie has a longstanding interest in the creation of new technology-based ventures, having previously been a member of the Investment Committee of the Venture Capital fund Uniseed, and more recently a co-founder of the Melbourne Accelerator Program.  He serves on the investment committee for the commercialisation fund of the Murdoch Childrens’ Research Institute and is a mentor and investor at Moonshot Space Accelerator.

“I’m delighted to be joining the ANDHealth board at such an exciting time for the digital health sector, as the COVID pandemic has opened the eyes of many to the potential for innovation in healthcare. ANDHealth will help ensure that Australia reaps both economic and health dividends from the efforts of the emerging generation of digital health entrepreneurs,” Dr Day said.

ANDHealth Founder & CEO Bronwyn Le Grice said, “We are thrilled that Charlie is joining the Board of Directors. I am privileged to be supported by an exceptional independent Board of Directors, and Charlie’s expertise will further enhance the strategic firepower of ANDHealth at Board level.”
